Thought I would give you a break from the regular Alex stuff. My Father-in-law (Jim) and I went to see the jet cars at Rocky Mountain Raceway this weekend. It was his fathers day present from several months back plus it was a great excuse to get us both there. We have had to wait a little while, it only happens once a year. I have included a video I shot I took, it was recorded in widescreen and the video upload on blogger is only a 4:3 format so it is a little squishy (Sorry, I am a little tweeky about these things, still experimenting with video upload). Enjoy!!!

I Can Do It Myself!
So this afternoon for lunch I had made some homemade yam baby food for Alex. He usually eats lunch very well. Today he was being fussy and insisted on grabbing the bowl. He started scooping the yams out with his hands and liking his fingers off. Then he got a hold of the spoon. It made a pretty good mess but he had fun and ate all his food...well, all the food that didn't end up all over him. It is so fun to see him learn and grow up.

Listening Session with Dad
For those of you who know my husband well you know that he loves to listen to music. He has a whole room in our house full of speakers and other equipment just to listen to music with. Alex has had the opportunity both while still inside me and since birth to listen to music with Daddy. He loves it! He also loves to dance while listening. Here is a picture from their latest listening session.

Sick Little Baby

Alex had another ear infection this week - except in the other ear this time. I didn't think that it could be an ear infection since the last one he had made it so he didn't want to nurse. We took him to the night time kids care at his doctor's office because he had high fevers and wasn't acting his normal energetic self. There was a lady doctor that he didn't care for much. She didn't find anything in his ear so they decided to do a catheter which didn't do any good since he had just emptied his bladder. Then they stuck this bag over his boy parts and told us to come back after he had urinated. That took an hour and a half. Then we were supposed to follow up with his regular doctor the next day. Doctor Boam asked me to bring him in again. This time the ear infection was visible. He says sometimes they miss them right at the begining because the ear hasn't got all swollen yet. So all the fuss about a supposed bladder infection was unnecessary. I am sorry little man. It has been really crappy because he has been kind of fussy. He looks at me with those sad eyes as if to say, "Mommy fix it." I feel so bad for him because there isn't much I can do to make him feel better. All he wants to do is be held and rocked. That is not a bad thing most of the time. I haven't slept super well but he seems to be doing better this evening with some help from the prescription and some ibuprofen. Hopefully we will all sleep better. I guess I can just count my blessings that my otherwise not-so-cuddly son is hugging with Mommy.

Camping with Zackary
We got to go to the cabin with Shawn's family over Labor Day weekend. They are selling it so it may be our last visit. One of Alex's favorite people was there - Zackary! Zack is Alex's cousin that is 7 months older than Alex. He loves to play with him and try to do the things that Zack can do. He also loves the dogs, ALL dogs. Probably his favorite cabin activity is napping outside with Daddy. He does it every chance he gets. I think Shawn enjoys it as well.

Alex Is Smiling...Or Is He?
So everyone keeps asking me how we get Alex to smile in his pictures. Honestly there is almost zero work involved. He is always smiling during the day. However, if you would like to visit at 12:30-1:00 in the morning you will find a totally different child. Alex has slept really well his whole life except the past couple of weeks. He turns into the devil when the sun goes down. He doesn't know what he wants. All he knows is he wants it now. He will cry for hours on end until we bring him in our bed with us. Finally, last night we were able to stay calm long enough that he cried himself back to sleep (only took 45 minutes!) and slept until 4:30 when he woke and I was happy to nurse him. I don't have any pictures of these nights for two reasons. We are in our underwear at 1 AM. Also, I would not want anyone to see us (or hear us) at our worst. Don't worry, we do not beat our child (I'm sure some of our neighbors think that). We will get through this somehow and hopefully we will have our bed back to just the two of us by the end of the week. :)
